Karl Pilkington Portrait Sitting (Rory Lewis Photographer 2019)
Recently I was commissioned by Curtis Brown Management to capture a series of promotional portraiture for Karl Pilkington. An English travel show presenter, actor, author and all-round funny man who shot to fame alongside Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant with the radio programme, the Ricky Gervais Show.
He then jetted around the world as the face of the hugely successful, An Idiot Abroad, before making his acting debut in the comedy-drama series, Derek. He has also enjoyed prominent success as a radio producer and as the co-founder of RISK productions, a television production company. Meeting Karl at the London studio was an absolute treat. I’d been a great admirer of his programmes for a while and was eager to hear about his experiences.
For anybody familiar with Karl’s work, you will be all too informed of his no nonsense persona; a hilariously blunt way of looking at the world, and a rare capability of reducing some of the world’s greatest wonders to nothing more than overrated shams.

In what was a wonderfully relaxed session, I managed to capture a number of fabulous frames that encapsulates Karl’s charm and natural appeal. He was a pleasure to work with in what was one of my personal favourite sittings to date.
