The Heroes in Focus Foundation, founded by acclaimed portrait photographer Rory Lewis, is dedicated to honoring and preserving the stories of military and service personnel through powerful portraiture and narrative. The foundation fosters empathy and understanding between civilian and military communities by highlighting the heroism, sacrifice, and diversity of those who serve.
A key part of its mission is to create a living archive of Rory Lewis’s military portraiture, offering these images for educational use, academic lectures, museum collections, and curated exhibitions. Through this growing archive, Heroes in Focus not only documents service but also ensures these legacies endure and continue to inspire future generations.

Over the course of my work as a military portraitist, I have had the honor of photographing a wide spectrum of the Armed Forces, from storied regiments, brigades, battalions, and military associations, to esteemed military institutions and royal and noble figures. My lens has captured the commanding presence of senior officers, the dedication of enlisted personnel, and the ceremonial dignity of those who represent the Crown and country.

In 2018, I had the rare honour of photographing His Royal Highness, The Duke of Kent, in a portrait sitting that captured not only royal stature, but a lifetime of military service. Posing in his ceremonial uniform as Field Marshal, the Duke stood as a symbol of dedication, discipline, and enduring legacy within the British Armed Forces.
