“Excellent photography workshop. We went through 8 different light set ups starting with a single light source and ending up with two light sources with the tightest control of the light. There was a lot to take in and was very happy with the photos I took. The breadth of the material covered was excellent. Very pleased to have attended. Thanks Rory!”

It was a pleasure to welcome acclaimed producer and journalist Mariam Zerehi to my new Downtown Los Angeles studio for a headshot session designed to reflect her multifaceted career. Mariam’s work spans storytelling, media strategy, and cultural commentary—so it was important to craft portraits that matched her voice: confident, intelligent, and full of purpose.
Today, we celebrate the 82nd birthday of His Royal Highness Prince Michael of Kent (Michael George Charles Franklin; born 4 July 1942)—a distinguished royal, military officer, and steadfast patron of charitable and fraternal causes.
Throughout my career, I’ve had the honor of photographing Prince Michael of Kent on four occasions. Each sitting offered a distinct window into his life of service, heritage, and quiet strength—capturing not only a royal presence, but a deeply human one.
It was a pleasure to welcome actor Anthony Giordano into my Manhattan studio for a recent headshot session. Running a business in Downtown Los Angeles today requires grit, heart, and a good deal of resilience. My studio, now proudly located in the historic Hellman Building in the Old Bank District, stands among a dwindling yet determined group of creatives, entrepreneurs, and independent business owners still striving to make DTLA a vibrant cultural and artistic center.
“Never meet your heroes—they’ll only disappoint you.” It’s advice we’ve all heard, often with a smirk of world-weariness behind it. But I’d argue otherwise. In my experience as a portrait photographer, meeting—and photographing—my heroes didn’t just live up to expectations; it shaped the very arc of my career.
