Shortlisted Portrait of Britain 2021

Serjeant at Arms Ugbana Oyet Rory Lewis Shortlisted of the Portrait of Britain 2022.

Portrait of Britain is presented by the British Journal of Photography. Two Portraits by Photographer Rory Lewis of Serjeant at Arms Ugbana Oyet & British Army Household Cavalry Trooper Ainuson, have been shortlisted.

Ugbana Oyet is the Serjeant at Arms responsible for keeping order within the Commons part of the parliamentary estate. There are also some ceremonial aspects to the role. Oyet agreed to sit for me at Parliament as part of a new portrait project.

Trooper Ainuson a soldier first, is part of the elite Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment. Conducting mounted state and public duties in London. Their prestige and horsemanship takes them across the UK and the rest of the world on key international events, all whilst representing the Monarch and the Nation.

Captured as part of Britannia a new Project by Rory Lewis the portraits been selected to appear in a Nationwide Exhibition. Shortlisted from 13,000 entires, and will feature in the Portrait of Britain book, available from Amazon. This constitutes Rory’s 5th consecutive shortlist and win of the Portrait of Britain in five years.

Simon Bainbridge, editorial director of the British Journal of Photography, said: “The portraits celebrate the unique heritage and diversity of modern Britain, as much as its thriving photography culture and the myriad styles and approaches they employ in their work. Yet, as much as our tribal allegiances are on show in many of the photographs, each image reminds us that, above all, we are a nation of individuals.
