The Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment are probably the most famous of the mounted soldiers, symbolic due to their Buckingham Palace connections. Photographing these troops required meeting them on home turf of Knightsbridge.

2nd Battalion, Royal Gurkha Rifles, Portrait Sittings

Working with the 2nd Battalion, Royal Gurkha Rifles, was one of the highlights of my Soldiery Project. Many civilians will know something about the Gurkhas. The Regiment carries no flag or pennant, but instead a battle honour is displayed on their chest belt. I was honoured to to capture their unique ceremonial staff, the Queen’s Truncheon, presented to the Regiment in 1863 for their loyalty and service to the Crown.

Lieutenant Colonel McKay MBE, 1st Battalion Grenadier Guards Portrait Sitting

Arriving at the barracks of the 1st Battalion Grenadier Guards in Aldershot, I was met by the Regimental Sergeant Major, a six foot three inch imposing soldier. It was an exciting prospect to work with the Regimental Commanding Officer.

April saw me spending three weeks back over the pond in Los Angeles, leading me to dub the city my second home. This avenue of photography has really taken off for my business. Back in 2014 it accounted for barely 2% of my work load. Now, in 2016, 15% of my assignments take place in the City of Angels.

Lt General Mark Poffley O.B.E very graciously accepted my invitation to sit for a portrait at the M.O.D London Headquarters in WhiteHall. Poffley was commissioned into the Royal Army Ordnance Corps in 1985.

Austrian General & Defence Attaché to UK, Brigadier Günter Eisl commissioned a portrait at the Austrian Embassy in London. I am no stranger to working with members of the British Armed forces; it was a nice change to photograph a soldier from the Austrian Military.

René Auberjonois has an instantly recognisable face which I believe becomes better and better with age. Star of stage and screen Auberjonois, has appeared in M.A.S.H, Star Trek Deep Space Nine and Boston Legal to name but a few titles. I wrote to René several months ago to arrange the sitting in Los Angeles, and to my wonderment, he agreed to sit for a portrait during my visit to LA a few weeks ago.

As luck would have it while on assignment in Los Angeles Actor Mark Margolis, and his wife Actress Jacqueline Margolis where staying in the same Studio City hotel. I recognised Mark in the lobby having a sneaky cigarette, and introduced myself, he was very approachable and chatty. Mark has starred in dozens & dozens of films, from 1492 to Hannibal, The Wrestler and of course Scarface.
