Beginner Portrait Photography Evening Course (4 Evenings)

Join internationally recognised portrait photographer Rory Lewis for a four-evening course designed to introduce photographers to the art of portrait photography.

Students will learn the foundations of portrait photography including lighting, composition, camera settings, and directing subjects. Across the four evenings, participants will observe demonstrations and photograph professional models during practical sessions.

The course concludes with each participant creating their own planned portrait, applying the techniques learned throughout the program.

Class sizes are limited to ensure personal instruction and hands-on experience.

Course Schedule

4 Evenings

Doors Open: 6:45 PM
Class Time: 7:00 PM – 9:30 PM

Evening 1 – Foundations of Portrait Photography

Lecture and demonstration covering the core principles of portrait photography and studio lighting.

Evening 2 – Studio Lighting Demonstration

Learn how professional lighting setups work, including high-key and low-key portrait lighting.

Evening 3 – Practical Portrait Session

Participants begin photographing professional models while applying the techniques learned during the course.

Students will also begin planning their final portrait concept.

Evening 4 – Final Portrait Creation

Participants photograph their planned portrait with guidance and feedback from Rory Lewis.

The course concludes with a group image review and discussion.

About the Instructor

Rory Lewis is an internationally recognised portrait photographer whose work includes portraits of leading actors, military leaders, and public figures including Sir Patrick Stewart, Sir Ian McKellen, and Dame Judi Dench. His work has been exhibited internationally and is held in major collections including the National Portrait Gallery.
