Mark Murphy: Aspiration, Artistry, and the Power of Representation

Capturing rising talent is always a privilege—especially when the subject brings both purpose and passion to the frame. Recently, I had the pleasure of welcoming actor Mark Murphy into the New York studio for a headshot session.

Born and raised in the heart of NYC, Mark's journey into acting began early—staging action scenes in the living room at just eight years old. Inspired by the commanding presence of actors like Denzel Washington, Mark’s ambition isn’t just to perform but to represent. He’s on a mission to inspire Black children everywhere to see themselves on the big screen.

With credits that already include two short films, national commercial work, UGC campaigns, and print for Brius oral care, Mark is steadily building a resume with substance and reach. He’s even made background appearances in the TV series Fugue. Outside the studio, Mark finds creative balance painting in Central Park—another reminder of his multidimensional talent and deep connection to his roots.

For our session, I wanted to capture that same determination and authenticity that defines his story. My approach to actor headshots is always rooted in collaboration—understanding each actor’s essence and ensuring the images reflect the breadth of their range and personality. With Mark, it was about strength, relatability, and presence—qualities that casting directors will instantly notice.

Whether seasoned or just starting out, actors like Mark are what make this work meaningful. It’s not just about lighting and lens—it’s about capturing a moment of truth, and for Mark, that truth is powerful.
