Capturing the Many Faces of Shane Atwooll (Rory Lewis Actors Headshots London)
From the West End to Hawkins: A Session at the London Studio
In my latest session, I had the pleasure of photographing the formidable Shane Atwooll. Currently commanding the stage as Chief Hopper in the West End hit Stranger Things: The First Shadow, Shane is an actor whose resume reads like a masterclass in versatility.
A Career of Grit and Grandeur
Shane’s career has never stayed in one lane. He has navigated the high-stakes worlds of Ridley Scott and the visionary experimentalism of Andrew Kotting. Whether he’s portraying the doomed George Cornell in Legend or exploring agricultural hardship in Clio Barnard’s Dark River, there is a grounded, "lived-in" quality to his performance that is a gift for a portrait photographer.

Key Highlights of Shane’s Prolific Career:
Stage: Landmark roles in Death of a Salesman (The Lyric), The Last Days of Judas Iscariot (Almeida), and the Olivier-winning Piaf.
Film: Notable turns in Wonder Woman 1984, This Filthy Earth, and Legend.
Television: Dominating screens in The Witcher, The Alienist, and most recently, Channel 5’s Finders Keepers.
The Session
Working with Shane in the London studio was about capturing that "emphasis on character" he is so well known for. When an actor is used to inhabiting such diverse worlds—from the fantastical Carnival Row to the operatic Porgy and Bess—they bring a unique presence to the lens. We focused on the quiet intensity that has made his portrayal of Butch Honeywell and Chief Hopper so critically acclaimed.
