Jared Harris — Portrait Photoshoot, Los Angeles

Jared Harris is one of the most compelling character actors of his generation, celebrated for performances that combine intelligence, restraint, and emotional depth. His work spans landmark television and film projects, including Mad Men, The Crown, Chernobyl, The Expanse, The Terror, and Fringe, as well as major feature films such as Lincoln, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows, and Allied. In recent years, he has taken on the role of Hari Seldon in the Apple TV+ series Foundation, further cementing his reputation for gravitas-driven storytelling.

Jared and I had been attempting to organise this portrait sitting since before the pandemic, a process that stretched across nearly three years. In August 2022, we finally realised the session in Los Angeles, capturing a body of work shaped by patience, intent, and shared creative understanding.

The portraits were created as part of my ongoing Selah project—a series rooted in contemplation, stillness, and psychological presence. Drawing inspiration from the Old Master painters Rembrandt, Caravaggio, Titian, and Ribera, I focused on sculptural light, restrained tonality, and atmosphere rather than surface polish. The aim was not to document a role or persona, but to allow something quieter and more introspective to emerge.

Rather than conventional actors’ headshots or promotional imagery, this session prioritised mood and inner life. The resulting portraits are spare, cinematic, and timeless—images that sit somewhere between contemporary photography and classical painting, revealing Jared Harris not in performance, but in reflection.
