Mark Margolis Portrait Sitting New York

Mark Margolis has starred in dozens & dozens of films from 1492 to HannibalThe Wrestler and of course Scarface. Not to mention the Television Series Breaking Bad, as the notorious man with the Bell, Hector “Tio” Salamanca.

Mark sat for me back in 2015 during a trip to Los Angeles and as luck would have it, during my visit in New York last month; he was available to sit for me a second time. On this occasion the portraits where taken for for my Selah portrait project. Directing Mark I asked him to imagine he had taken a long pilgrimage. Now reaching the end of the journey, my impetus was to capture a man of faith who is almost pensive, taking the time to meditate and reflect.

It’s not unusual for photographers to be inspired by other types of art. As you may have noticed their is a great deal of Renaissance Italian influence in my portraiture. Drawing inspiration from the Old Master painters like Rembrandt, Caravaggio, Titian and Ribera. I have attempted to masterfully recreate the light, atmosphere and tones of classical portrait paintings. This is even more apparent in my latest project entitled Selah.
